Dress: & Other Stories, Jumper: New Look, Bag: Mansur Gavriel via Net-A-Porter, Boots: By Far
If I had a pound for every time I have had a confused weather what-on-earth-should-one-wear chat over the past couple of weeks I'd be a millionaire; and this weekends crazy forecast has really thrown a spanner in the works. Seriously, as if sartorial transitioning wasn't hard enough, this years highly unpredictable weather is making it pretty impossible to know what on earth to sport for the best. One minute I'm freezing and the next I'm breaking a sweat. I've got the tights out, they're back in, oh maybe I should go with a something in between fishnet? Hmmmmm, it's a daily struggle. So naturally, when it comes to shopping in the September/ October/ November months, I'm longing for coats but in reality it's just not quite cold enough for all that layering. Queue the humble midi dress. If it's a slip version a la this & Other stories number well, even better. I snapped this up (it's in the sale in-store) this week and although it's essentially a summer piece, it can 100% work not only in this ridiculously unpredictable couple of months, but will also see me right through the winter too I reckon.
There are so many possibilities with a strappy midi dress which make it the perfect transitional piece and in fact, all year rounder. Right now I'll be wearing it with bares and boots, tees and roll necks under; it will work well with fishnets, with thin tights, wooly tights, jumpers under, jumpers over, flat boots, high boots, long coats, biker jackets - you name it, it'll go. The subtle print and colours of this dress work so well for this time of year too, tiny flecks of mustard, burgundy, pale blue and white mean it can be paired perfectly with all of my Autumnal pieces and 14359 roll necks in every colour under the sun.
Honestly, if you don't have a midi slip dress in your life right now you're missing a trans-seasonal trick! There are a fair few other good options to be had in the Other Stories sale too so I'll link them all below. You can thank me later! Rachael
